The time has come for the Batlhabine Community to appoint their fully-fledged Kgoshi. According to sources, a representative from Coghsta will soon visit the Batlhabine Traditional Office to review the regent. Meanwhile, Mr. Patrick Mogoboya is rallying support to elect him, while Mr. Ramape Mogoboya is mobilizing a group that supports his father.
This situation has reached a critical point, creating a tense and interesting moment for the Batlhabine Ba Mogoboya community. Supporters of fairness and justice recall that Mogotlo Ramoba Mogoboya, according to the Kgatla Commission, was the last fully-fledged Kgoshi, killed in 1939 by the so-called Motato wives who feared he would claim the Bogoshi of Batlhabine.
Both sides have submitted applications for appointment to the Premier of Limpopo’s office. The truth is, the appointment of Jack Masibele Mogoboya was only valid for 12 months, but he extended his term beyond that, despite his certificate expiring. Some believe that district officials may have been influenced.
Over 1.2 Million Rands of Batlhabine Community Funds Illegally Deposited in Separate Accounts

In a turn of events, the Batlhabine Traditional Office obtained a court order to release bank statements linked to Mr. Patrick Mogoboya’s group. The man at the center of the controversy, seeking to be appointed as acting caretaker of the Bogoshi of Batlhabine, is now in a difficult position as the community demands the return of the funds.
Mr. Mogoboya allegedly hijacked the Batlhabine Traditional Office as early as 2020, opening illegal bank accounts with Standard Bank of South Africa to deposit community funds. The Batlhabine Royal Council, with the assistance of Jack Mogoboya, expelled him and his associates from the office in August 2023. It was discovered that money had been deposited into these accounts without the approval of the Royal Council or Coghsta.
The Royal Council then approached the Magistrate’s Court in Naphuno to freeze the accounts in the name of the Batlhabine Traditional Council and the Batlhabine Ba Mogoboya Family Trust. Over R700,000 had been withdrawn in recent months.
The court eventually closed both accounts, and a new application for bank statements was successfully granted last month. These statements are now being reviewed by professional accountants to assess the funds and determine if any banking laws have been violated.
