Oooh Shame, more increased death and infections will sky rocked as Federal President Trump of the United States of America withraw HIV/Aids funding from South Africa. More communities and people will suffer and new infections will go high
South Africa has long been at the epicenter of the HIV/AIDS pandemic, with millions of citizens relying on health services funded by PEPFAR for life-saving antiretroviral treatment (ART), medical supplies, and healthcare services. This funding has not only facilitated access to essential healthcare for individuals living with HIV/AIDS but has also supported vital programs focused on prevention, testing, and education.
The withdrawal of PEPFAR funding will undermine years of progress made in combating HIV/AIDS in South Africa. Communities, particularly in rural and under-resourced areas, will bear the brunt of this decision. Health centers that rely on PEPFAR funding will face shortages of essential
medications and support, further exacerbating an already strained public healthcare system.
The timing of this decision is particularly concerning, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to stretch healthcare resources and the need for continuous HIV care remains critical.
Marginalized communities—especially women, children, and LGBTQIA+ individuals—will be disproportionately affected by these cuts. These groups have historically faced greater barriers to healthcare access and are now at risk of losing the life-saving support that PEPFAR funding has enabled.
Institutions of research like Desmond Tutu foundations will cut their staff and other essential workforce. In Mopani district municipality Anova Health Institute phased its operations and vehicles are parked without staff . Life threatening diseases like TB and others will become more with the support of the Non-government organisations ( NGOs). According to Minister of Health Mr Aron Motsoaledi, Usaid was funding about 17% of the total budget of the project but more most NGOs have stopped working.
